In
order to bring the tourism infrastructures of the Karaburun Peninsula to
the required level, official bodies as well as private sector and civil
service organizations are working on a series of projects.
THE
KARABURUN CITY YACHT-HAVEN
A
project developed by the State Airport and Seaport Authorities foresees
the construction of a yacht-haven in front of the existing little
fishermen port of Karaburun City. The realization of this project will
be a major tourism attraction for the City of Karaburun.
THE
KARABURUN RESEARCH PROJECTS OF THE UNDERWATER RESEARCH SOCIETY AND THE
MEDITERRANEAN MONK SEAL RESEARCH GROUP (SAD-AFAG)
The
Underwater Research Society and Mediterranean Monk Seal Research Group
is conducting a series of projects to protect the Mediterranean Monk
Seal and to ensure the continuation of this species. The presence of the
Mediterranean Monk Seal on the Karaburun Peninsula is regarded as a
substantial advantage for the image of the peninsula. One of the main
principles highlighted by the project is the fact that only tourism
models conforming to a sustainable environmental development are viable
for the Karaburun Peninsula. The project started three years ago and is
financed by the European Union.
THE
PROJECTS OF THE UNION FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, CULTURE AND TOURISM
The
Union for the Environment, Culture and Tourism has been set up in March
2003 by the District Government and has started off with a project
aiming at “knowledge building for project development and
implementation amongst ground level students”. The project will be
first conducted in the ground level schools of the peninsula and will
include high school levels at a later stage. Through this project the cultural values of the Karaburun
Peninsula, which are on the verge of getting lost forever, will be
identified and means will be explored to keep these traditions alive and
make them contribute to the tourism development of the Karaburun
Peninsula. The students, who are assisted by voluntary consultants, have
decided upon a number of topics to be highlighted and developed for
future projects. The results of the project will be published on this
web site.
"WINPEACE"
KARABURUN AGRO-TOURISM PROJECT
"WINPEACE"
(Women'
s Initiative for Peace) is a platform where Turkish and Greek women, coming from various
Women NGO’s are getting together and work on peace building projects
in order to enhance peace on both sides of the Aegean Sea and throughout
the world. One of the Winpeace projects deals with agro-tourism. After
an intensive search period for a suitable area, the Karaburun Peninsula
has been selected for the implementation of the agro-tourism project. The project aims at the set-up of a Women Agro-Tourism
Cooperative by the women of the villages of Sarpincik, Parlak and Küçükbahçe.
The Karaburun Women Agro-Tourism Cooperative will rent rooms located in
the village houses to tourists and sell the various products the women
will make. The project is financed by the European Commission and
various other sponsors and contains the restoration and adjustment of
the guestrooms, training of the women for the purpose of village tourism
and cooperative work as well as the marketing and promotion of the new
Women Agro-Tourism Cooperative products. The project has just started
off. The results will be published on this web site.
PRIVATE
SECTOR PROJECTS
Aktif
Azimut Ltd., a foreign capital company active on the Karaburun Peninsula
will soon start with the realization of the "Ma
Vallée – My valley" project in the village of Bozköy. “Ma
Vallée” will become an accommodation and activities center for
alternative tourism in the village. The project will highlight all
natural, cultural and historical values of the Karaburun Peninsula and
will also make use of alternative sport activities and various
relaxation methods. Click on the link for more details.
Other
private initiatives are dealing with ecological farming.
